Mihir
Kumar Maitra obtained a 5 - year's integrated Master
degree in Earth Science (Geology and Geophysics) from
Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in 1972.
He started his carrier as a Hydrogelogist with Action
for Food Production (AFPRO) - a technical support
agency for the voluntary sector and gradually rose
to the position of Head, Water Resource Development
department. He did his PhD in the year 1990 on Geohydrology
and published two books around the same time; one
in groundwater management and the other on Watershed
Management.
In
1991, he joined the Watershed Management technical
cooperation project with GoI, an Indo-German Bilateral
Project funded by GTZ and worked as a Project Manager
for about 4 years. This was followed by a 2 years
assignment with Ecotech Services (ETS), New Delhi
working on Dutch funded water management projects.
Since 1998 he has been working with India Canada Environment
Facility (ICEF) as a Senior Project Manager.
As
a comprehensive land and water resource specialist
and with experience of a large number of development
projects, his strenght lies in the areas of formulating,
funding, monitoring and evaluating Natural Resource
Management projects, adopting innovative and community
based approaches.
