The Year
Ahead - Challenges and Commitments
SINCE 1994, ICEF has been providing leadership,
encouragement and guidance, apart from funds, for projects to improve the
environment and also to enable the communities to lead a better quality of
life. In the remaining year and a half, till the expiry of the Memorandum of
Understanding between the Governments of Canada and India in
December 2007, we intend to intensify our efforts to document the lessons and
disseminate them for the common good. With the collective endeavors of the ICEF
family, spread over the country and across two continents, we hope to make the
achievements in the year ahead, a fitting tribute to the legacy of India–
Canada partnership in the environment sector.

workshops held so far, ICEF has provided a

at the highest level. The dissemination plan in
the coming year includes thematic workshops covering key areas such as land,
water, renewable energy, forests, community participation and environment
education. The first of these workshops on “renewable energy for hilly areas”
will be held in Leh, Ladakh in June 2006. A wrap-up workshop will be held in Delhi in
late 2007. Apart from this, individual projects will be holding workshops at
regular intervals. A more informative website, linkage with knowledge networks
— such as the UNDP Solutions Exchange, booklets on various projects and ICEF
presentations in workshops organized by third parties, are also part of the
dissemination strategy.
ICEF has lived up to its mandate for creating
projects to promote sustainable development in the environment sector and the
learning can be replicated and scaled up across the country. It has provided
valuable experience and expertise to various levels in the Government’s
policymaking grid and enlarged the knowledge-base on developmental issues. It
has evolved into an institution for innovation and learning, and this preserves
the relevance of ICEF beyond 2007. It provides a ready platform to various
agencies interested in promoting environmental initiatives to launch their
programs and projects in the coming year towards achieving the goal of
sustainable development.
